Chronicle nominated for 16 awards

Birmingham Press Club judges have shortlisted both the North Shropshire Chronicle and the Shrewsbury Chronicle for Newspaper of the Year, and announced a string of individual nominations for the staff.

In the running to be named News Reporter of the Year (Weekly) are Laura Bradbeer, former Chronicle reporters James Holt and Richard Botley, and news editor Liz Gray, who won the award in 2006.

Liz is also shortlisted for Feature of the Year, along with James Holt, and for Scoop of the Year.

Peter Kitchen and former Chronicle reporters Russell Roberts and Lizzie Yates are up for Newcomer of the Year, while among the contenders for Headline of the Year are editor John Butterworth, assistant editor Kim Bennett, sub-editor Fran Llewellyn and sports editor Alun Owen.

The awards showcase some of the region’s finest talents from newspapers to radio and this year’s winners will be announced at a black-tie ceremony in Broad Street, Birmingham, on Wednesday November 21.
