Police investigating the murder of two men whose bodies were found in a flat above a fish and chip shop in Shawbury have arrested a man in connection with the incident.
West Mercia Police yesterday, Wednesday, released details of Sukhdav Singh whom they were looking for in connection with the murders.
They also released his picture during a press conference in Shrewsbury saying they believed he had travelled from Shropshire to Smethwick in the West Midlands.
Detective Chief Inspector Jon Collier yesterday confirmed Sukhdav Singh had been traced and arrested.
“He was arrested at a location in Smethwick by West Mercia officers acting on information gained by the investigation team based at the incident room in Telford.
“Sukhdav has been taken into custody at Telford Police Station where he is being interviewed about the deaths.”
DCI Collier said that although the arrest did not arise from the public appeal in which Sukhdav was named, the special call centre set up by police had received a number of calls to assist the investigation. The call centre has now closed following the arrest.
“We are very grateful for all the information forwarded to us following the press conference and would repeat our general appeal asking people who have any knowledge of Sukhdav, or his movements, to call the incident room at Telford on 08457 444 888 should they have any information which might possibly help the investigation.”
Information can also be given to the anonymous Crimestoppers number 0800 555 111.
