Service personnel, businessmen and kind- hearted volunteers have all been recognised in the New Year’s honours list.
Ryan Jervis, head of Adcote School, has been awarded an OBE for his contribution to education.
The former head of the Lakelands School sports and language college in Ellesmere said: “I am delighted, it is a great honour to receive this but I am also humbled because it is due to a lot of wonderful people.
“I would not have been able to do what I did at Lakelands, where I became head in 1995, without the parents, governors and superb children.”
Mr Jervis began his teaching career in 1970 at Meole Brace School in Shrewsbury, nearly giving up the career before a year was out. But he persevered and went on to teach in Church Stretton and Oswestry.
He said he is planning to attend the presentation with his family.
Ann Trevor-Jones, of Church Preen, Church Stretton, has been given the MBE for services to the National Garden Scheme and to the community.
Mrs Trevor-Jones is the current vice-president of the garden scheme and has been involved with it since 1973.
After spending considerable time planning and designing the garden for visitors with her late husband Phillip, she regularly opens the doors of Preen Manor in Church Preen, to raise funds.
The national scheme generates about £2 million every year for nursing, caring and gardening charities by welcoming half a million visitors to gardens across the country.
Servicemen and women at RAF Shawbury have also been recognised for ‘exceptional contributions’, as well as one department at a north Shropshire air base.
Squadron Leader Andrew ‘Harry’ Palmer, former commanding officer of No Sixty Squadron of the Defence Helicopter Flying School, will receive the MBE for ‘outstanding leadership’ and ‘unstinting devotion to duty’.
Flight Sergeant (now Warrant Officer) Carol Staton has been granted the Meritorious Service Medal for her outstanding leadership qualities and work as the physical training instructor within her branch.
Sergeant Nicholas Bowles, RAF Shawbury’s training and development co-ordinator is awarded a commendation by the Air Officer Commanding No 22 (Training) Group for outstanding organisational flair and leadership qualities.
And Corporal Karen Marie Howarth, has been granted a commendation by the Air Officer Commanding No 22 (Training) Group for her invaluable contribution to the RAF Shawbury dental practice while also ensuring the smooth running of the dental practices at other Army barracks.
The Defence Helicopter Flying School’s Ground Training Squadron team have also received a commendation by the Air Officer Commanding No 22 (Training) Group for their ‘imaginative and dynamic development of instructional material for course alterations introduced to meet urgent operational requirements.’
