Dave Edwards intends to return to live in Shrewsbury after completing a dream £675,000 move to Wolves.
The ex-Gay Meadow favourite, who left Town to join Luton in the summer, is delighted with his switch to Molineux and hopes to push for his debut at Scunthorpe on Saturday, writes STUART DUNN.
“It’s a fabulous move for me and I’m very happy with it ,” said Edwards.
“I was speaking to my agent Matt Boswell (captain of Pontesbury Cricket Club) about six weeks ago and said to him my dream move would be to Wolves as they are a big Championship club, a level I’m confident I can play at, and are also close to Shrewsbury.”
Edwards was a spectator as Wolves lost 3-0 at home to Crystal Palace last weekend having signed too late to be involved.
Now he’s looking to impress manager Mick McCarthy in training to force his way into his selection thoughts for Saturday.
“I know it’s not going to be easy to get in the team but I’ll try my best,” said Edwards. “He’s bought me as a central midfielder.”
Edwards has been made to feel welcome at Wolves and the fact he already knew some of the players has helped. “I know Kevin Foley, the full back, from being with him for a couple of months at Luton and we got on well there,” he said.
“I also know Wayne Hennessey and Freddy Eastwood from the Wales squad but all of the guys seem great.”
Edwards, who praised Luton boss Kevin Blackwell for helping him to improve his game, added it had been an “up and down eight months – a roller- coaster” since deciding to leave Shrewsbury. But he’s glad he stuck to his guns even though it led to Gary Peters not considering him for the play-off final.
Edwards remains a keen follower of Town’s fortunes having watched several games this season.
And he added he was pleased Town would benefit from a sell-on clause, believed to be worth around £75,000, which means his switch to Kenilworth Road should see Town receive close to £400,000 in all.
