What a great way to start the New Year by meeting up with the family and treating yourself to a lovely Sunday carvery.
The Lion and Pheasant on Wyle Cop was our venue.
The sittings available for the carvery are at 12.15pm and 2.15pm. We opted for the early one as I took my three year old daughter.
Christmas decorations were still in abundance as we made our way through to the lounge and into the bar/restaurant. We were greeted by the friendly barman who offered us a selection of beers, wines and soft drinks.
After making our choice, we were escorted to our beautifully decorated table in front of a large, brick feature fireplace in an old, traditional atmosphere.
The menu had a superb choice of starters. The carvery consisted of pork, turkey and beef with all the trimmings, and was followed by several desserts. A vegetarian option is available on request.
Homemade chicken, liver and pork paté was an excellent choice as it was presented with salad and ample toast. The garlic mushrooms arrived in a bowl with rice – rather unusual but proved to be a huge success, as all the delicious juices were preserved in the rice.
We were shown to the carvery and met by the delightful chef who carved the succulent meat, while we helped ourselves to green beans, carrots, cauliflower, new potatoes, roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings and all the trimmings. All cooked to perfection.
Following a tasty, delicious meal, we decided to have a short break as we perused the mouth-watering desserts that were to follow. After much deliberation we opted for a chocolate fudge cake and ice cream, treacle roly poly, and cheese and biscuits, (an extra £1.50). All were an excellent choice.
This was our first experience of the Lion and Pheasant and what an enjoyable venue it proved to be.
All the staff were extremely courteous and attentive, without being intrusive. It was obvious to see it was advisable to book due to the number of diners in the restaurant.
Excellent facilities for the disabled were also noted. We will certainly return in the future.
