Our REsponD Appeal has gone into top gear with the arrival of a new £50,000 multi-purpose vehicle.
The Renault Master LM35dci arrived this week thanks to Shropshire Horticultural Society which donated more than £42,000 needed to purchase it.
The vehicle will now enable the Red Cross to help even more vulnerable people across the county and will be used for a number of purposes, including providing an ambulance service and transporting passengers and equipment.
Harry Wilson, chairman of the Horticultural Society, officially handed the keys over to Red Cross fundraiser Ian Musty yesterday.
Mr Musty said: “We are thrilled with the very generous donation from Shropshire Horticultural Society. We are so excited to have a brand new purpose-built vehicle which will help provide better services to those people who most need it in the county.”
Mr Wilson said: “We support the Red Cross because we think it’s a worthwhile cause and the horticultural society has had a long association with the organisation. The society is set up to make donations from our annual income and we set aside a certain figure to give to worthwhile causes.”
The vehicle will be used at countywide events such as Shrewsbury Town home games, carnivals, motorcycling and scrambling events where the Red Cross provides first aid services.
Reaching this milestone is a considerable achievement for the £100,000 appeal which was started in October 2006. The next step will be to fund a REsponD co-ordinator who will recruit volunteer ambassadors.
