Best Mum of Britain award

sd2505989lingen22-pic1-of-1.jpgTelevision crews visited our Lingen Davies appeal’s office this week to film one young mum who has been nominated for GMTV’s Best Mum of Britain competition.

Emma Dajavis, 32, has been fundraising for the appeal since being diagnosed with leukemia in 1997, and now works as an area co-ordinator in Ludlow.

Following treatment at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital Emma was told her chances of having children were almost non-existent, but happily went on to prove them wrong.

She was nominated by her husband Pete on behalf of their four children. Emma said it was a real shock to find out she’d made the final four and she hopes her story will help others. “I was very fit and full of life when I was diagnosed with leukemia. I had chemotherapy and went down to five stone and lost all my hair. It was quite soul-destroying.

“I will be nervous, but I feel if there’s someone watching who’s going through what I did it will give them some hope.”

Appeal fundraising manager, Eryl Williams, said: “Emma is a wonderful mum, and is a true inspiration to other women suffering from cancer. She has raised thousands of pounds for our appeal and I’m really pleased that she has been nominated for this award, and I hope she wins!”

Emma’s story will be broadcast next week when voting lines will open.
