Ban on junk food

sd2532593healthyaw7.jpgHealth conscious children have voted to ban junk food from their school and only healthy snacks will be offered from next month.

The pupils at Shrewsbury High School’s junior department were asked their opinions about break-time snacks as part of an initiative to encourage them in decision making.

School Council representatives from each class asked their fellow pupils to join in the voting on the ‘healthy snack only’ policy.

Chris Davis, school secretary, said: “The children voted overwhelmingly that they only wanted healthy snacks in school and so the Year Six representatives drew up a plan and wrote to all of the parents explaining the new initiative.

“The parents have been very supportive and as from Easter will only be sending in healthy snacks for their children.”

She said: “Staff are proud of the decision that the children came to themselves as they are tackling issues head-on with solutions that will make a difference to their health.

“The school has encouraged pupils to be involved in decision making and their ideas help to shape the future of the new Shrewsbury High Prep School,” she added.
