Freya hits the high notes

By James Pugh

A budding Shrewsbury violinist has hit the high notes in style by winning three music awards at two separate events in the space of a couple of hours.

Freya, (pictured right), finished first in the aged 9-12 category of the Minsterley Eisteddfod for playing the violin and also won the outstanding child instrumentalist accolade. She was then named as top performer in the aged 9-12 primary string section at the Wenlock Edge Festival.

Her mum, Lucy Carson, said: “I am very proud of my daughter and she has been rewarded for all the hard work she has put in. The main thing is that she keeps on enjoying herself,” she added.

Freya was just five when she started playing the violin and she has already achieved grade five.
