A red-faced vicar is urging couples who have booked their wedding day at one of his churches to get in touch – after computer glitches caused him to lose all the bookings.
Reverend Philip Williams, vicar of St Giles’ Church, Wenlock Road, and St Eata Church, Atcham, had saved all the wedding bookings for both churches on his computer hard drive – but after suffering a series of problems with his computer since the start of the year, the dates have been wiped off his hard drive and back-up drive.
At least 12 weddings have been put at risk as a result and while some of the couples have got in touch with Mr Williams he has urged others to contact him quickly to avoid having their big day ruined. Mr Williams said: “For all the good points about computers, when things like this happen they can be a right nuisance.
“Although most people have been in touch, my worry is that double-booking will become an issue and a couple will want to book their wedding on a day which has been booked by someone else.
“I will continue to use computers to book weddings but just hope something like this doesn’t happen again.”
Any couple who has booked to get married at either St Eata or St Giles’ churches are asked to contact Mr Williams on 01743 356426 or email flyingvic@btinternet.com.
