Bomere snaps up Mahmood

Bomere Heath have swooped to sign Pakistani First Class cricketer Hasiz Khalid Mahmood as their new overseas professional.

Skipper Ian Day is delighted to have secured the services of the former under-19 international and Mahmood will make his debut in Saturday’s home game against Albrighton in the Marston’s Shropshire Premier League, writes STUART DUNN.

Mahmood takes over from South African allrounder Wendall Wagner as Bomere’s pro after the two parties went their separate ways by mutual consent.

Mahmood, who currently plays his cricket back home in Pakistan for Sialkot Stallions, boasts an impressive CV, with Day hopeful he will make a big impact. “We’ve got him through an agent,” said Day. “We need a pro in this league to complement the very talented cricketers we’ve got and you want someone who can play every week.

“That wouldn’t have been the case with Wendall owing to his work commitments.”

Mahmood, 31, will meet his new team- mates at nets tonight and Day expects him to bat in the top five and play a leading role with the ball as a paceman.

He is used to English conditions having played in this country each summer since 2001. He scored more than 1,000 runs for Yorkshire club Bridlington in 2005 and 2006 and averaged 49 for Redditch last year.
