News editor Liz Gray, acting news editor Peter Kitchen and former Chronicle reporter Russell Roberts have been named as three of the five finalists in the Weekly News Reporter of the Year for the Midlands Media Awards 2008.

Editor John Butterworth said: “Liz Gray won this title in 2006 and then Richard Botley in 2007 so we are going for the hat-trick this year.

“To get three out of the five finalists is a superb achievement for such a young and talented staff.”

The winner will be announced next Friday ( June 6) at the ICC in Birmingham city centre at an evening hosted by the Birmingham Press Club.
