Getting married was one of the happiest moments Neville and Jennifer Morris spent together – and 50 years on the pair recreated their special day by returning to where they held their reception with bridesmaids and best man in tow.
Neville and Jennifer marked their golden wedding anniversary with a meal and party at Snailbeach Village Hall on Saturday – 50 years to the day from their wedding which also fell on a Saturday.
The happy couple were joined by their entourage from their wedding day. Best man Malcolm Knill and bridesmaids Audrey Warburton, Margaret Williams, Lorna Knill and Sheila Knill were all present for the celebration.
Neville, 69, and Jennifer, 67, started dating as teenagers, with Neville staying at his grandmother’s house in the Stiperstones to visit Jennifer, who was studying in Bishop’s Castle. They were married at Hope Church on May 24 1958 and spent their honeymoon on the Isle of Man for the TT motorcycling event.
Saturday’s party was attended by around 140 people – 70 of whom were at the reception 50 years ago. People travelled from Shrewsbury and from as far afield as London for the event, which included entertainment from one-man band Tony Hughes.
Neville and Jennifer have retained several mementoes of their wedding day, including ribbons from the wedding car, the bride and groom figurines from their cake and lucky charm gifts.
Neville said: “It was just like our wedding day on Saturday – we were going round trying to make sure we spoke to everybody. Fifty years ago the bar was free, and we made sure everyone got a free drink this time.
He added: “I wouldn’t change anything from my married life, and we are both looking forward to the future together.”
