Relatively good weather on Bank Holiday Saturday inspired us to take a lunchtime trip to Radbrook’s Inn on the Green, en route to an afternoon’s exploring in south Shropshire.
We were both pretty hungry as we’d missed out on breakfast and the sunny patio at the pub in Bank Farm Road proved a nice spot to soak up some rays and enjoy a leisurely meal.
Friendly staff handed us a main menu and pointed out the specials board – which offers great value at two courses for £5.50 – and let us take our time choosing.
Pete’s deliberations were accompanied by a pint of Banks’s bitter and I had an apple and melon flavoured J20. (Guess who was driving!)
I opted for a starter of crispy breaded mushrooms on a bed of salad with a pot of garlic mayonnaise and Pete went for the homemade soup of the day (cream of vegetable), with crusty roll and butter. Both were good and also well priced at £2.95 apiece.
For my main course I chose breaded plaice with a wedge of lemon and tartar sauce, which was served with chips, peas and a refreshing side salad. (£4.95)
I also enjoyed a glass of Stowells dry white wine to accompany my meal.
Pete had the spicy homemade chilli con carne which came with both rice and chips. (£5.25) And he washed his meal down with another pint of ale.
After a suitable ‘rest’ interval, we tackled the mouthwatering choice on the pudding menu (all items reasonably priced at £2.95) and selected rhubarb crumble with cream (for me) and lemon sponge with custard (for Pete). The puddings were nice but I have to admit the crumble was a bit too much for me to manage and I had to leave some.
Replete and replenished – and with a bill which did very little damage to our pockets – we headed off to enjoy the rest of the sunny day in the beautiful Clun Valley.
