Visitors to this year’s Shrewsbury Folk Festival will be able to enjoy fresh food delivered right to the campsite after organisers pledged to work closely with local businesses.
Festival organisers came up with the idea of bringing fresh produce to the West Mid Showground for the event on August 22-25 as a way of supporting local businesses and bringing revellers the goods they want.
Although a small shop sold groceries on site last year, show bosses felt it would be beneficial to bring fresh goods in for campers. Rodington based BoxFresh will be creating and supplying the festival boxes which campers can order in advance and pick up onsite.
The shop will continue to sell groceries including fruit, veg, eggs, bacon, sausages, bread, cheese, butter, milk, tea, coffee and sugar among other goodies.
Neil Pearson, festival director, said although organisers work with caterers all over the country they were aware of the benefits in working closely with Shrewsbury firms.
“It seemed natural to work with BoxFresh,” he said, “we approached them about it. We had a shop last year which sold more groceries than fresh produce, we thought it was something we were missing from the range of things we offered.
“With so many campers on site it seemed like a perfect opportunity.”
Des Walker, managing director of Boxfresh, said as a fan of folk music himself he was really looking forward to the event.
“We’re really delighted to be involved with it, it’s a great opportunity to get involved with the festival and provide quality produce over the weekend, and maybe take some ongoing orders too.”
