Rising soccer star Joe Hart will visit the town next weekend to put a smile on children’s faces.
The former Shrewsbury Town keeper will open the annual Severndale School summer fair on Saturday, June 28.
Joe, who now plays for Manchester City, recently received his first England cap when he played in a friendly against Trinidad and Tobago a few weeks ago. His sister, Chloe, 24, works as a teaching assistant at Severndale and has organised for Joe, 21, to come to the school for the special appearance.
As well as opening the fair, he will be available to pose for pictures with people and sign autographs.
Chris Davies, headteacher, said: “We have kept the fact that Joe will be coming quite quiet, but I am sure that once the children find out about it they will be very excited and keen to meet him. It’s great that he has agreed to come along.”
A cheque for £50,000 will also be presented to Mr Davies by the Friends of the School to help pay for specialist outdoor play equipment.
The fair will take place from 11.30am until 1.30pm.
