Frisbee-like golf course

Council bosses will be the first in the country to fund a unique £2,200 golf course which will tee off next month.

The free-to-use nine-hole disc golf course is situated in Mereside Park, Sutton, and the official opening ceremony is expected around July 10.

The original idea for the project came from Shrewsbury resident, Bill Ferguson, who has been involved with the sport for 30 years.

The game involves each player throwing a frisbee-like disc from the tee, and completing the hole by landing in or striking the target.

Mr Ferguson said: “I am confident it will be a success, I would urge people to try it.”

Charles Armstrong, SABC portfolio holder for leisure, said: “The project is targeted at certain community groups which will hopefully turn their minds to something more constructive.”
