Pay and dismay

A woman has vowed never to park on a town bridge again after she received a double-whammy £90 parking fine.

ticketsjp252.jpgRebecca Biggins, 27, was issued with a ticket for not parking in a designated bay and for obstructing a pay and display machine on the Kingsland Bridge. Each ‘offence’ carries an automatic £45 fine, but Miss Biggins has vowed to appeal against the decision.

She claims there were no markings or signs to say she couldn’t park in the area and deliberately parked with one of the wheels outside the white lines so that people could still use the machine.

Miss Biggins, who lives in London but was visiting family in Upper Battlefield, received the fine from car park operators Elite Parking Control which manages parking on the bridge on behalf of the Kingsland Bridge Company.

“It seems that people even get parking fines for using common sense nowadays,” she said.

Cheryl Hart, a spokesperson for Elite Parking Control, said: “Although there is nothing to say you are not allowed to park next to the pay machine, it’s common sense and the fact that the lady was clearly obstructing it was why she received a ticket.”
