Shop in the Loop

A call has gone out to traders to get more involved in a fledgling retail group set up to promote the town centre.

The Shop in the Loop body was formed earlier this year, initially to organise a successful celebration to mark the end of the £2 million road improvement programme.

Members have since gone on to arrange other high profile initiatives and now the group needs to communicate on a more regular basis with a wider range of retailers. Representatives will be aiming to call at all shops over the next few weeks to get more shop owners and managers involved.

The group was behind a first-of-its-kind show garden at this year’s Shrewsbury Flower Show, which involved retailers creating their own tiles to be included in the stand design. According to group members, borough mayor Anne Chebsey has asked that they be put on permanent display.

The group also provided additional prizes and categories in the Shrewsbury shop window competition.

Susan Caroline, a spokesperson for the group who runs Pengwern Books in Princess Street, said: “Shop in the Loop is thriving – we have been thrilled with the support and success we have had so far.

“But we are now launching a campaign to get the email addresses of all shops in town so that we can receive more feedback, involvement and ideas.

“Shrewsbury is a fantastic place to shop – we have around 400 privately-owned stores and we want to promote this fact to as wide an audience as possible. With all the retailers on board we can go from strength to strength.”

Retailers wishing to be in regular communication with Shop in the Loop should send an email to shopintheloop@live.co.uk
