Shrewsbury residents will benefit from faster journey times to London when new timetables are launched in December.
Changes include cutting half an hour from the current Wrexham, Shropshire and Marylebone timings, with many trains making the trip in just over three hours.
It is also expected that refurbished coaching stock will be in use on the route in time for the timetable changes.
Russell Mulford, president of Shropshire Railway Society and a director of Shrewsbury Railway Heritage Trust, said: “A draft timetable has been sent to the train operators, Network Rail, and barring any last-minute hitches, the train times will be reduced.”
Mansel Williams, chairman of the Shrewsbury Railway Heritage Trust, said: “It is fantastic news for residents and business people in Shrewsbury.”
A spokesman for the Wrexham and Shropshire service said the timetable runs out on December 13 and the company has been in contact with other rail operators about the proposed changes.
“We said when we started the service we will be looking at reducing the times,” she added.
The first train from Shrewsbury will start half an hour earlier at 5.52am, arriving in London before 9am.
This compares with the present one leaving at 6.25am arriving at 9.54am.
Meanwhile, the rail company has introduced a new £28 return ticket from the county to the capital for people who book in advance.
The new ticket can be purchased by visiting www.wrexhamandshropshire.co.uk, contacting 0845 2605900 or passengers can buy them on board.
