The paper that gets results

Work to restore an abandoned playground on a Greek island in memory of a town trader will start in the spring – all thanks to Chronicle readers.

Readers have helped carry the Trikeri Island Playground Appeal over the £10,000 mark after a host of donations. The appeal is being run by Allan Hollick of Copy-write in High Street, Shrewsbury, in memory of his wife Chris, who died in August.

Thanks to cash raised by readers since we reported on the appeal a fortnight ago it is hoped the island playground, where Allan and Chris used to holiday, will be finished by September 2009.

Allan said he was ‘overwhelmed’ by the response and thanked the Chronicle for its support.
