Peacocks cause mayhem

A mischievous muster of peacocks prowling around a village has been frightening children and causing mayhem.

Staff at St Lucia’s Primary School in Upton Magna say that ‘aggressive’ peacocks have been messing on their grounds and attacking school property for more than two years.

They have contacted a number of groups including the RSPCA and Environmental Health about the problem.

They have also written to Upton Magna Parish Council who have been discussing the issue. But no one has come up with a solution.

The school has been advised that scattering lion excrement around the grounds would help deter the birds, but staff felt it was too costly an option.

Jeana Bennian, school spokesperson, said: “Some of the children are quite frightened of the five peacocks – they come and attack the windows. They can be quite aggressive and they make such a mess.”

Parish clerk Pauline Thomas is now calling on national parks or people with big gardens to come and take the peacocks away.

A RSPB spokesperson said the birds may be tapping on the windows to gain attention as their previous owners may have fed them through windows.
