Chronicle third best

The Shrewsbury Chronicle has been voted the third best weekly paper in Great Britain after having a double success in last Thursday’s Newspaper Society Weekly Awards competition in Leeds.

The Chronicle beat dozens of papers to win gold and the regional title for the best paid-for weekly in the West and East Midlands and East Anglia.

Joining the six regional winners in the national final on the night, the Chronicle was then given bronze when it was voted the third best weekly paper in the UK behind the Cumberland News and the winner, the Bath Chronicle.

The Shrewsbury Chronicle, which took this title in 2002, has now won six regional and four national titles in the last 12 years.

“To do this with reporters, most of whom have only just clocked up 12 months’ experience in journalism, is staggering and shows what potential this team has,” said Editor John Butterworth.

“It is good to see the Shrewsbury Chronicle is still flying high in the Premier League of Britain’s weekly newspapers.”
