The Shrewsbury Chronicle has been praised in the Houses of Parliament for its contribution to highlighting important local issues as well as raising more than £5 million for charities.
Daniel Kawczynski, the town’s MP, joined in a parliamentary debate on Tuesday about the future of local newspapers.
He told the Commons he depends on the Chronicle for raising issues ‘pivotal to the people of Shrewsbury’.
As well as emphasising the controversial issues dealt with by the paper Mr Kawczynski said our coverage of rural concerns was also important to those living in isolated areas.
“The Shrewsbury Chronicle reports the views of its readers and the work of MPs, MEPs and councillors.” Campaigns to install a sign on the M6 directing motorists to the county town and the successful Let’s Grow For It were also praised for promoting Shrewsbury.
“Thanks to the Shrewsbury Chronicle, Shrewsbury finally has a sign on the M6 directing people to our beautiful, historic town,” said Mr Kawczynski.
“And in the past 12 years the paper has raised more than £5 million for charities.”
