A town church will hold its first four day music festival in May, with organisers hoping it grows into a major annual event.
Bosses at St Chad’s have announced the line-up for the May bank holiday event which aims to showcase young musicians, many of them local, as well as bring in a range of well-known professionals.
Highlights include an organ recital by Roy Woodhams, vicar of Fleet in Hampshire, a lecture given by author Christopher Symons on The Life and Music of Sir Henry Walford Davies, a piano recital by Lauren Hibberd and Black Voices, a vocal concert sponsored by the Shropshire Music Trust.
Further treats include a chamber concert by Trio Preti, a gala organ recital by Richard Walker and a chamber concert by the Hafren Wind Quintet.
The festival will take place from May 1 to May 4 and has attracted the support of many respected musical patrons.
Tickets, costing from £4 to £10, will be available from mid-March from St Chad’s office on 01743 365478 or via the St Chad’s website www.stchadschurchshrews bury.com
