Regular event for pet lovers

A village couple are hoping to turn walking the dog into a regular social event for pet lovers.

Mandy and Steve Brown, who run Wagglers Dog Grooming, at Hillgate Hemford, near Minsterley, are inviting dog owners to join a trek to an historic hilltop site.

The group walk to the stone circle at Mitchell’s Fold, on nearby Stapeley Hill, will take place next Sunday, April 26, to mark National Pet Month.

Walkers will set off at 10am from the Stapeley Hill car park, which is at the end of the no-through road in Hillgate Hemford.

Mandy and Steve are hoping the free event will become a regular fixture on animal lovers’ calendars.

Mandy said it was a chance for dog owners to meet up and get to know each other. She said: “I often go out and see people walking their dogs and I thought how nice it would be to see dogs and their owners walking together and socialising. It is a way for people to get their skills together to help each other out, and promote fun and responsible dog ownership.”

Each participant will also receive a £5 discount voucher to have their dog groomed by Wagglers.

A Friends of Wagglers Dog Grooming group has been set up, with a programme of events, talks and walks in the pipeline, offering nutrition information and other handy hints and tips, with all proceeds going to National Pet Month charities.
