Boss backs town to win

Paul Simpson has every confidence his Shrewsbury Town side will get the win they need in Saturday’s “cup final” at Dagenham & Redbridge to book their place in the League Two play-offs.

Town, who will be backed by a sell-out contingent of 1,400 away fans this weekend, travel to East London aware that only three points will be enough to leapfrog the Daggers and grab a top seven spot on what promises to be a dramatic final day of the season.

And positive boss Simpson is backing his team to cope with the pressure and deliver when they have to in order to keep the club’s promotion dream alive.

“It’s ridiculous how it’s worked out over a 46-game season that we’re down to a one-game cup final,” said Simpson. “But we’re there, we’ll be ready for it, and we’ll look forward to the challenge.

“We know exactly what’s required. There are no ifs and buts. We don’t have to look at any other results, just our own, and if we go and perform to the levels we can, I don’t see there being any problem.”

Dagenham’s blistering run of form has seen them emerge as surprise play-off contenders, with  Simpson intrigued how they will approach this weekend’s vital game.

“It’s there’s to lose now, the tables have turned, and I don’t care what anybody says, they’ve got something to lose,” said Simpson.

“They’re at home so do they go for a draw or the win? We’ve just got to concentrate on ourselves and if they have got any doubts then we’ve got to make the most of it.

“I have to say Dagenham are a very good side. I saw them beat Brentford last week. They’re in great form and it’s going to be tough but we’ll go there and give it our best shot.”
