A WARM welcome has been extended to diners this summer who are invited to try out a lunchtime salad bar at a 17th century coaching inn in the heart of Shrewsbury.
The Lion Hotel in Wyle Cop, which is steeped in history, has a new lunchtime menu, priced at £8.50 for two courses with the choice of a salad bar or a hot dish alternative.
The lunch menu is available Monday to Saturday between 12noon and 3pm and there is a selection of cut meats including Hereford beef, Shropshire ham, pork pie and up to eight salad dishes. There is also a variety of hot dishes including home made lasagne or shepherd’s pie.
For a more intimate experience, the Sam Hayward Restaurant offers guests the chance to enjoy a meal or get-together with friends. The menu features a wide range of fresh local produce and all the food is prepared on site.
A range of dishes are available to tantalise taste buds, including starters such as wild salmon mousse and caramelised free range belly pork; mains such as roasted duck breast and a medallion fillet steak al gratin; and desserts including a traditional rhubarb and apple crumble or steamed chocolate pudding.
A Sunday roast is also available comprising of one, two or three courses every week between 12noon and 3pm.
The restaurant was named after the famous Shrewsbury wonder who recorded the fastest time from London to the town on an old horse-drawn carriage.
The hotel also has a wide range of function rooms catering for any occasion, including the 18th century-listed Adam Ballroom which is licensed for civil marriage ceremonies and can seat 120 people. Informal meals and snacks are available in the hotel’s Tapestry Lounge and Tudor and Oak bars.
