“This will bring floodlit league football to Shrewsbury at an amateur level for the first time,” said club chairman Pete Edwards.
“The merger will benefit both clubs by providing Roman Road players an outlet into the adult game while allowing Hanwood United to draw on a youth development squad to supplement their senior teams.
“It will also provide opportunities to share training facilities and coaching resources.”
The team will play under the Hanwood name with their home games on the main pitch at Shrewsbury Sports Village.
Edwards added: “This is the team’s last season at junior and youth level and provides them with a chance to play at some quality grounds against big clubs.
“They are so lucky to be able to play their home games at such a great venue. There is no doubt it will be a huge challenge for both the squad and the management team but they should all enjoy the experience and savour it and will be better players for it.
“It will give them a natural route to remain in grassroots football, if they wish to pursue it, with a very well established and progressive club.
“A group of people have worked hard to make this happen but I would particularly like to thank Mark Harvey of MAH Garden and Home Maintenance for his generous support.”
There are still places available in the floodlit league squad and for the Roman Road team who will play in the Shropshire Minor League.
The club are also exploring sponsorship and advertising opportunities.
