Who are you calling a lazy pig? Certainly not four-month-old Scarlet, who’s finding fame with her fondness for keeping fit.
The four-month-old porker from Cardeston, near Shrewsbury, hit the headlines last year when she showed off her love of trampolining during an audition for TV show Britain’s Got Talent.
Now she has been invited by Guinness World Records to take on a fresh challenge.
The rare breed pig will demonstrate she is special in other ways by attempting to ride down a six-foot slide as many times as she can in one minute.
The record attempt will be filmed by Liza & Huey’s Pet Nation, a new prime-time series launched on Sky1 HD and Sky1 next month.
The house-trained hog shares a home with Gwen and Steve Howell, and their daughters Tara, 15, and Alex, eight. Together the couple run a pig breeding business, Pigs in Clover, which specialises in rare breeds.
Despite her fame, Gwen, 46, told the Chronicle Scarlet, a Hungarian mangalitza, was keeping her trotters firmly on the ground.
She said: “Scarlet is a bit of a prima donna and she’s very demanding. She’s enjoyed all the fuss and likes all the visitors. She’s really confident and not fussed by people coming to see her to take photos and stroke her.”
One of the reasons the show’s producers were keen to film Scarlet was because she lived in the house, added Gwen.
The new 10-part series celebrates weird and wonderful animal stories from around the world and combines home videos with features filmed in the studio and on location, as well as appearances from celebrity guests. The first show is due to be broadcast on March 26.
