Shrewsbury skipper Ed Foster has warned his side not to get carried away with their impressive start to the season which sees them sitting at the top of the Birmingham Cricket League premier division.
They are unbeaten after three league games and Foster says his team are full of confidence going into Saturday’s match at Kenilworth Wardens (noon) following last weekend’s excellent victory over reigning champions Knowle & Dorridge.
The London Road side should be unchanged for the game which Foster hopes will see them continue their unbeaten run.
“Kenilworth Wardens is a difficult place to go – it is usually a dry, slow wicket and the opposition will no doubt try to use their spinners effectively,” said Foster. “However, we have got some good spinners of our own and we will take encouragement from beating them at their place earlier in the season in round one of the Graham Williamson Trophy. “We are delighted with our start and we have played some good cricket.
“But we mustn’t get carried away as it is a long season and it is inevitable that at some point we will go through a blip. There are a lot of good teams in the division and anyone can beat anyone on their day.”
lShropshire captain Foster and several of clubmates survived a dramatic day to edge out Northumberland and maintain the county’s hopes of qualification for the quarter-finals of the MCCA Trophy.
A comfortable 45-run win came after a middle order collapse followed by a near faultless performance in the field. Foster made 27 as Shropshire reached 230-9. Three early strikes in an excellent opening spell from Shrewsbury bowler Michael Barnard piled the pressure on Northumberland in their reply before they tailed away to 185 all out.
Shropshire are now preparing for a winner takes all showdown with Staffordshire on Sunday.
