In-form Shrewsbury Athletic Club duo Steve Cale and Pete Middleton continue to excel with high quality performances in fell and road running respectively.
Cale sealed victory in the Pontesbury Fell Race and finished second in both the Batch Bash and Rodney’s Pillar races, a record which has him at the top of the summer fell series standings.
Middleton, meanwhile, finished fifth in the Ironbridge Four, fourth in the Phoenix Flyer and third in the Shropshire Four, and is currently third overall in the Telford Sexarathon Road Race Series.
On the fells, Shrewsbury club captain Graham Jones heads up the veterans’ over- 50 category while Juan Castillo has returned to the county to produce some fine displays.
Jack Francis, following in dad Kevin’s footsteps, is currently challenging for top place in the junior male category.
The versatile duo of Kevin Francis and Paul Clarke are enjoying successful series on both road and fell in the veteran over-40 and 50 categories, with Francis currently first in the over-40 section in the Sexarathon Series.
There have also been a string of consistent performances in the women’s events, with Anna Bartlett, first in both the Caradoc and Batch races, heading up the fell series.
Claire Burgoyne, first senior woman home in the Phoenix, Shropshire and Ironbridge races, currently heads up that category in the Sexarathon Series.
