A 13-year-old Shrewsbury waterskier who already has a string of titles to her name has been selected to compete for Great Britain in the European Championships – one of the sport’s most illustrious events.
Sophie Jones, from Radbrook, will be one of four members of the under-14 British waterski team taking part in the event in Austria next month.
It is second only to world level competition in the sport and Sophie and her family are delighted with her success.
Dad Keith said: “We’ve got the national competition in a few weeks time and thought the decision would be made after that but they’ve already decided and Sophie’s been selected, she will be the only girl too. It’s fantastic and we’re all so pleased and proud of her.
“It will be her biggest competition yet and it’s second only to the world championship. It’s the highest level she can compete in at her age, the youngest world category is under-17.”
The competition will take place at Lanbach, Austria, between August 25 and 29.
Sophie has already won the British Youth Trials and other league competitions and will compete in the British Junior Nationals at the end of the month.
