Shrewsbury’s Christian bookshop will be given a new lease of life after more than 300 people saved it from closure.
Illuminate, on Wyle Cop, was threatened with closure last month after the owners announced it was running at a loss.
A steering group set up to save the venture successfully raised £48,000 by selling shares to more than 300 people and church groups. It means seven jobs have been saved and Shrewsbury Youth for Christ and Community Money Advice can continue to run from the premises.
Although the group did not reach its target of £60,000 shareholders voted last week to keep going and the fundraising group has now become The Illuminate Trust. It will officially take over the business from August 1.
