Rock legend Sir Elton John will be performing a one-off concert in Shrewsbury next year with sales of the 18,000 tickets already selling well.
He will appear with his band and special guests at Shrewsbury Town Football Club’s Oteley Road Stadium on June 12.
The open-air gig will be Sir Elton’s first in Shropshire, and the Shrewsbury date has been fitted into the touring schedule alongside destinations including Munich, London and St Petersburg.
A hotline number for ticket sales crashed yesterday due to demand for places which range in price from £35 to £75.
Ian Bebbington, the football club’s operations and commercial manager, said: “We had so many telephone calls that the system crashed on a number of occasions because it was briefly unable to cope with the sheer volume of inquiries.”
He added that the club could host further concerts if Sir Elton’s gig went well.
“If we can get people in and away without any hassle then of course, we’ll think about doing similar things. There are huge economic benefits to the county as a whole.”
Tickets are available by calling the following hotline numbers: 0844 209 7366; 0844 581 1302; 0844 847 2450.
Hospitality packages are available on 01743 289177.
