Apple has managed to capture the hearts and minds of mainstream consumer like no other electronics manufacturer in recent years, with its iPhone range selling millions more than most of its rivals. The iPhone 4 actually saw its expansion in the smartphone market accelerate and despite complaints about antenna performance it has continued to set the benchmark for success. If you need convincing of the Apple iPhone 4’s worthiness, read on.

The iPhone 4 represents the biggest hardware departure from the range’s roots as the curved back has been ditched for a uniform, flat design coated in metal and high quality glass. The results are easy on the eye and comfortable in the hand and while the Apple logo is displayed proud on the rear most choose to swaddle their iPhone 4s in protective cases so as to preserve that initial sheen.

The 3.5 inch Retina Display of the latest iPhone has the same dimensions as in previous generations, but the resolution and pixel density have been greatly increased. In layman’s terms this means that the onscreen images are finer and crisper than ever before, with text looking gorgeous, even up close and games popping off the screen in a seamless manner. Other hardware changes have been made too, although these are largely under the skin. The processor has been beefed up to use the same chip found in the iPad and 512MB of RAM allow for multitasking which was absent in previous editions.

The arrival of the Apple iPhone 4 was accompanied by the launch of the iOS 4 platform. This brings various enhancements on top of the aforementioned multitasking. One of the most noteworthy is the FaceTime app, a video calling feature which harnesses the iPhone 4’s forward-facing VGA camera to allow users to chat face to face over a Wi-Fi connection.

Onboard you can find either 16GB of 32GB of storage space, depending on which you choose to use. You can fill this space with applications from the App Store or songs from iTunes, providing hours of entertainment when you are on the move. The photographic capabilities of the phone have been beefed up significantly thanks to the addition of a five megapixel camera which can record HD video clips in 720p. A lot of tweaking, tuning and augmentation has gone into the Apple iPhone 4 and it is clear that this is a very polished smartphone.

If you are looking for the iPhone 4 deals on a contract in the UK you can pick either Orange, O2 or one of the other major network providers.
