Another upmarket store on the way

Up to 10 jobs will be created when a national fashion chain opens its doors in Shrewsbury next month.

East, a women’s clothing shop with more than 50 outlets nationwide, is taking over the former KFC premises on the High Street, which closed more than two years ago.

It is the second upmarket national store to announce it is moving into the town this month after Waitrose revealed plans to take over the former Burger King and old post office site on St Mary’s Street last week.

A spokesperson for East said: “We are delighted to be opening a new store in Shropshire this February, employing up to 10 members of staff.

“The brand currently has no retail presence in this area of the country and we also wanted to fulfil local interest indicated through its successful website.”

Simon Airey, president of Shrewsbury Business Chamber, said it was very good news for the town.

“It’s the continuation of a theme really, we seem to be seeing quite a number of high profile, national businesses locating to Shrewsbury.

“It’s an indication that our retail trade has been affected less than some other towns because of all the other attractions Shrewsbury has.

“I think it sends a very positive message out for this year’s retail trade,” he added.
