DEVELOPERS are proposing to build around 300 new homes in Battlefields, Shrewsbury.
Persimmon Homes are to hold a public consultation on plans to build the new houses, which will include a number of affordable homes on open fields adjacent to Shillingston Drive, in Battlefields. The site will not include the Lion Coppice woodlands.
Simon Miller, from the firm, said: “Whilst the house building industry has been going through a difficult period of economic uncertainty, this site is unique in that it has the potential to deliver significant developer contributions to improve the local area.”
He added: “A number of affordable homes are proposed as well as contributions towards education, open space, children’s play equipment and highway improvements.”
Shrewsbury Town Councillor Peter Nutting has welcomed plans for the new development.
He said: “They look quite reasonable, the town can’t stand still, we are always looking for growth.”
He added that the plans provided a welcome opportunity to increase social housing in the town.
Residents have been invited to attend a consultation event on Tuesday May 3 at the Red Lion Public House, on Battlefield Road. Between 4 and 8pm residents will have a chance to view plans of the site, talk to representatives from Persimmon Homes and fill in feedback forms.
Shropshire Councillor, Mal Price, for Battlefields, urged people to attend. He said: “I would actively encourage all residents in Battlefield Road and Berwick Grange to go to the event to physically see what is being proposed and give their comments.”
