GP surgery relocation is just two years away

A replacement for a town centre medical practice in Shrewsbury could open within two years, surgery bosses have said.

Bosses at the Riverside Medical Practice is pressing ahead with relocating from its current Smithfield Road site to a new centre on the corner of Barker Street and Claremont Street.

The surgery has received written confirmation from Shropshire Primary Care Trust that it will be provided with funding to help move to its new site.

And practice manager Martin Cousins said it should not be long before the surgery’s 11,000 patients are being served from the new location.

“I would have thought we are looking at 18 months to two years to be up and running in the new place,” he said.

A spokesman for Shropshire County PCT said: “The PCT is now waiting for detailed floor plans and agreement from the district valuer for the annual rental cost in order to give final approval for reimbursement of the rent and rates.”

Liz Lowe, head of estates for Morris Property, said: “It is excellent news that Shropshire PCT is progressing with funding for the relocation of the Riverside Medical Practice, and we are delighted to be identified as the preferred developer.”
