Shrewsbury’s MP is backing furious parents by calling for an urgent Government review into a damning Ofsted inspection which labelled the town’s Grange School as ‘inadequate’.
The secondary school, in Worcester Road, has been placed into special measures after inspectors gave it a poor rating in aspects such as teaching quality, pupil behaviour and achievement.
But angry parents have slated the findings, calling them ‘short-sighted’ and ‘often incorrect’.
And now Shrewsbury and Atcham MP Daniel Kawczynski has promised to write to Michael Gove, the Secretary of State for Education, to highlight parents’ concerns.
Mr Kawczynski said: “The inspection was an absolute disgrace and morale at the school has now plummeted.
“The Grange is a superb school, former pupils have gone on to Oxford and Cambridge. I am not happy about the way in which this Ofsted inspection has been carried out and I want to make the Secretary of State aware of this.”
Staff and parents at The Grange will have a say in the letter.
Parent Kerry Turner said she was appalled by the report. She said: “My daughter, Madeline, who is in Year 8, absolutely loves it at the Grange.”
Another mother, Pam Walgate, said putting the school into special measures was ‘hugely unfair’.
