PLANS are in the pipeline to create a new skatepark in Whitchurch – four years after the idea was first mooted.
The proposals for a new skatepark are being resurrected after youths in the town said there was nothing for them to do.
The problem of a lack of facilities was highlighted at a recent meeting between young people, youth workers, town councillors and police at Centre North East.
The original scheme for a skatepark on Jubilee Park failed to get off the ground due to objections from residents and the town council.
At the time Sir John Talbot’s Technology College was identified as an alternative site.
Now youth workers, councillors and the school headteacher will look again at making the skatepark a reality.
There is £16,000 in a Next Generation Youth bank account which was set up to help build the original skatepark, and Mike Ralph, treasurer of the group, said he could see no problem with the money being used for a new scheme.
He said: “We have a certain pot of money and would be happy to see it used for the benefit of youngsters in the town.
“Currently there are very few facilities for teenagers. This is wrong.”
